GOSPORT, BORDER SECURITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

The events surrounding the Channel crossing and the police operation in Gosport raise serious questions about the Government's handling of illegal migration.

Shabana Mahmood is the Home Secretary and therefore has overall responsibility for the Home Office, including immigration and border security. She was reappointed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham in July 2026.

Hampshire Police have confirmed that officers and partner agencies were deployed in Gosport and Portsmouth in response to the Channel crossing, and that the vessel ultimately docked elsewhere in the country. Six people were arrested following subsequent incidents involving protesters.

The public deserves clear answers:

❓️Who authorised the arrangements surrounding the arrival and onward movement of the migrants?

❓️What public money was spent on policing, transport, accommodation, food and other support?

❓️Which organisations and contractors were involved?

❓️What role, if any, did NGOs play?

❓️Why was the vessel diverted elsewhere?

❓️Who was responsible for the operational decisions?

❓️What checks were carried out on those arriving?

These questions should be answered transparently by the Home Office.

According to a whistle blower in the Home Office, many of these asylum seekers are fraudsters anyway. They pretend to be Christian, gay, married or younger than they are. Moreover, two thirds of asylum seekers often get their rejected asylum overturned after appeal.

Illegal Channel crossings and the asylum system are legitimate matters for public scrutiny. The Government has itself acknowledged that illegal crossings have damaged public confidence in the immigration system and has announced reforms intended to tackle abuse. Though the public do not see any improvement yet.

But allegations that particular politicians or organisations are running a coordinated people-smuggling operation does require evidence. Although, the optics and implications certainly raise questions. Therefore, I believe they should be properly investigated rather than simply asserted.

The British public has a right to secure borders, proper enforcement of immigration law, transparency over taxpayers' money and accountability from those responsible for Government decisions.

These questions need answering.

PUBLIC ANGER IN GOSPORT

There was public anger in Gosport over illegal migrants arriving in dinghies, escorted by French security and the RNLI charity.

The situation surrounding the arrival of undocumented migrants in Britain is becoming increasingly heated, and it is understandable that people are demanding answers about what is happening and who is paying for it.

Reports from Gosport have described extensive police resources being deployed, while arrangements have included food, clothing, footwear, tracksuits, coaches and onward transport to accommodation, including hotels.

For ordinary working people struggling with the cost of living, seeing resources being provided in this way to people who have arrived in Britain illegally is understandably causing anger and frustration.

The British public deserves transparency.

Who authorised these arrangements? Who is paying for them? How much is this costing the taxpayer? Which organisations are involved? Where are those arriving being transported, and what security and identity checks are being carried out?

There is also a legitimate question about why people arriving illegally appear to receive organised transport and accommodation while many British citizens are struggling to make ends meet.

This is a heated situation, and politicians should not dismiss public concerns. The Government needs to explain clearly what is happening rather than leaving the public to speculate.

Illegal immigration, border security and the use of taxpayers' money are legitimate matters for democratic scrutiny.

Britain needs secure borders, proper immigration enforcement, transparency and accountability.

And if Government policy is changing, the British people deserve to know exactly what that policy is — and why. Then we should be allowed to vote on it democratically.

Government's are described in the bible as having responsibility, maintaining order, punishing wrongdoing and are established by God.

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God...They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." (Romans 13:1,4, NIV).

But the prophet Isaiah warns:

"Woe to those who make unjust laws...to deprive the poor of their rights" (Isaiah 10:1-2).

Unjust laws and decrees can be divinely overturned by God through the prayers and intercession of his people.

BORDERS, DEMOCRACY AND ACCOUNTABILITY.

About borders, democracy and accountability, my personal view is that the British people are being asked to accept an immigration and border policy that many clearly do not support, without having been given a direct democratic choice over that policy.

Andy Burnham is Prime Minister and ultimately responsible for the policies and decisions of his Government. Shabana Mahmood is Home Secretary, with overall responsibility for Home Office business, including immigration and national security.

The events surrounding Gosport have intensified these concerns. Police confirmed that substantial resources were deployed in Gosport and Portsmouth in response to the small-boat crossing, while the vessel ultimately went to Dover.

The public is entitled to ask questions about the arrangements surrounding people arriving through the asylum system — including accommodation, food, clothing, transport and the use of hotels — and about how much these arrangements cost the taxpayer.

I believe this deserves full scrutiny and an independent investigation.

If the Government believes its current immigration policies have the confidence of the British people, then why not give the British people the opportunity to decide?

Andy Burnham should call a General Election.

If the Government cannot secure Britain's borders, tackle people-smuggling networks effectively and maintain public confidence in the immigration system, then questions of political responsibility inevitably arise.

I do not support an open-borders approach. I believe Britain should have secure borders, controlled immigration, effective enforcement and a properly functioning returns system.

And I believe taxpayers deserve transparency about where their money is being spent.

Something clearly needs investigating when public confidence is being lost and tensions are rising.

No more evasion. No more invasion. No more unanswered questions.

The British people deserve accountability. 🇬🇧
