COMMUNISM, MARXISM, SOCIALISM — AND THE BATTLE FOR TRUTH
It is important for Christians to understand the ideologies influencing our society so that we can pray strategically and discern the times.
Marxism has historically promoted class struggle, the abolition or radical restructuring of private property, and the belief that society should ultimately be transformed through revolutionary change and that everything belongs to the state. Marx famously described religion as an expression of social suffering and saw no need for God in his materialist worldview.
Here is his famous quote on religion:
"Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people."(Karl Marx, German Philosopher)
He identifies religion as the "sigh" of an oppressed creature and that people use religion as a comfort, almost like a drug because of physical and emotional pain and a lack of warmth in the real world. This is definitely a cynical and dark view of the one true religion of Christianity and of the one true God, who comes to heal us.
At its heart, Marxism teaches us to think in terms of classes and divisions: who has power, who has privilege, who is oppressed, and who is the oppressor. But the Gospel calls us to something radically different — reconciliation, unity and redemption through Christ.
Paul writes:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
— Galatians 3:28
The Gospel does not deny our differences; it brings people together in Christ.
This is why Christians need to be discerning about ideologies that continually divide people into opposing groups. Diversity should never become a weapon for division. We should be asking: Does this bring people together in truth and reconciliation, or does it continually create new categories of oppressor and oppressed?
Marxism uses diversity to bring division. We see this in DEI policies; the division of race and classes which has resulted in a 2-tier justice system that is corrupt and unrighteous.
Marxism also seeks to undermine the traditional family, weaken Christianity and radically challenge the concept of private property and individual ownership. As Christians, we need to understand these ideologies so that we can discern their influence and pray strategically against anything that opposes the biblical foundations of family, faith, freedom and personal responsibility.
It is interesting to note that, in his resignation statement as Prime Minister and leader of the Labour party, Keir Starmer spoke about wanting to be a better husband to his wife, Victoria, and emphasised that his family comes first.
That certainly seems like a significant change in emphasis. Could it be that he has recognised that some political policies can have unintended consequences for families and society?
Whatever the reason, family matters. Strong families are foundational to a strong society, and Christians should never underestimate the importance of protecting and strengthening the family.
I also believe Christians need to examine modern movements and policies carefully rather than simply accepting political labels. We must test everything against Scripture and refuse to baptise political ideology as Christianity.
Jesus is not a political mascot for either the Left or the Right. Jesus was not a socialist. He is Lord. His Kingdom is not built on Marxism, socialism, capitalism or any other human ideology. Jesus is a problem for the socialists of course.
It has been claimed that Karl Marx made a pact with the devil, although this is difficult to establish historically. What is clear is that some of his writings contain a deeply anti-religious worldview, rejecting the need for God and portraying religion negatively. They are dark, dismal, and demonically inspired writings. From a Christian perspective, these ideas are profoundly opposed to biblical faith and the lordship of Christ.
The Church must wake up, become informed, search the Scriptures and pray with understanding.
We are not called to hatred or lawlessness. We are called to stand for truth, righteousness, justice and the lordship of Jesus Christ.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Let us discern the times. Let us pray. Let us stand for truth.

Marxism also presents an internationalist vision that places class solidarity above national identity. From a Christian perspective, we must be discerning about any ideology that seeks to erase national distinctions and move society towards a centralised, borderless system.
This is what we are seeing happening today on our borders with the illegal immigration explosion.
I believe we are witnessing the development of systems that ultimately serve an anti-Christ agenda — systems that seek greater global control while rejecting the authority of God.
The Bible warns us about a coming system of worldwide political and economic control under the Antichrist (Revelation 13). Therefore, the Church must not be spiritually asleep.
We need to watch, pray and discern.
Our allegiance is not to Marxism, socialism, nationalism or any other human ideology. Our ultimate allegiance is to Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
“The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.”

My conclusion is this: From a Christian perspective, I believe Marxism is an ideology that can be used to advance an anti-God agenda and ultimately contribute to systems that oppose the lordship of Jesus Christ.
We must be spiritually discerning and recognise the darkness behind ideologies that reject God, undermine the family, erode Christian values and seek to reshape society according to human rather than biblical principles.
The Church must not remain silent or passive. We are called to resist darkness, stand for truth and pray strategically.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21
Let us push back the darkness with the light of Christ. 🦁🔥
