INVADERS

"I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us." (Habakkuk 3:16, NIV)

This is an interesting verse from the book of Habakkuk.

Many people are concerned about public safety and believe the current Labour government is not doing enough to protect communities, especially women and children. One of the primary responsibilities of any government is to keep its citizens safe and to uphold justice.

There are concerns that the asylum and immigration system does not always identify individuals who may pose a risk before they enter or remain in the country. When asylum seekers or migrants commit serious crimes such as rape or murder, it understandably undermines public confidence in the system.

Many argue (myself included) that stronger preventative measures are needed, including secure and controlled borders, thorough vetting, detention where appropriate, and the prompt removal of those whose asylum claims have been refused, in accordance with the law.

As prophet Habakkuk reminds us, even in troubling times we are called to wait on God with patience while praying for justice and righteousness to prevail.
