RIOTS IN BELFAST
Wow. Sadly, I expected something like this.
Let me be clear: I do not support rioting, criminal damage, or setting buses on fire. Violence and lawlessness only create more suffering.
However, public anger did not arise in a vacuum. It follows reports that a Sudanese asylum seeker publicly carried out a brutal attack on a man in Northern Ireland, leaving the victim with life-changing injuries. He was trying to decapitate the victim. Shocking footage. People are shocked, horrified, and asking serious questions about immigration policy, border security, and public safety.
Instead of immediately labelling concerned citizens as "far-right" or "racist," perhaps politicians and the media should acknowledge why people are so angry. The charge of attempted murder is evidently true, so this was an appalling act of violence that deserves to be condemned without qualification.
My prayers are with the victim and his family. Dear Jesus, be close to this man as he fights for recovery. I heard he lost his eyes. Horrific injuries. Bring him healing, strength, and comfort during this terrible ordeal.
People have a right to express their concerns about immigration, border control, and national security. Those concerns should be voiced peacefully, lawfully, and democratically. Anger can be a powerful force for change when it is channelled in the right way.
If someone commits a serious violent crime, they should face the full force of the law. Public safety must come first.
Whatever our views, we should be able to agree on this: violent attacks against innocent people are wrong, and justice must be done.
My heart breaks for that poor victim of this wicked attack by a Sudanese migrant who had been given asylum.
