My thoughts
This is all very strange and quite shocking. Sadly, I cannot say I am completely surprised after the controversy surrounding Joni, Doug Weiss, and Daystar. There were already many warning signs and concerns raised publicly at the time of their marriage, yet it seemed those concerns were ignored.
Sometimes when people refuse wise counsel and rush into relationships, the consequences can be devastating. From the outside, the relationship often appeared uncomfortable and unnatural to me, and Joni sometimes looked isolated and heavily influenced by him.
Now there are serious questions being asked about Daystar, Marcus Lamb’s legacy, and the future control of the ministry and finances. It feels heartbreaking to many supporters who watched Marcus build the network over decades. It is now in the hands of a stranger.
Reports circulating about Joni’s health and absence have only added more concern and speculation. Given all the controversy surrounding the ministry in recent years, I do believe transparency and proper accountability are important.
Time will tell what really happened behind the scenes. Watch this space.
A failed system at Daystar.
A system that became cultish and controlling. The “Moses model” of leadership without accountability is dangerous. It is not the Gospel of the grace of God. It harms everyone within its orbit.
These are sobering truths, but God is exposing faulty empires and unhealthy leadership structures.
It is deeply sad what happened to Joni, who sadly also became a victim of the very system she defended. It ended in her death. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, and manipulation and spiritual control (witchcraft in disguise) always bring destruction in their wake.
May Joni now rest in peace with the true Jesus — her Lord and Saviour.
Joni was 65 when she passed into heaven.
