KEIR STARMER'S SPEECH TODAY
I have been listening to Keir Starmer's speech about de-escalation of the war in Iran. He talks about protecting our nation, yet continues allowing boats full of illegal immigrants to arrive. He speaks about how dangerous the world is, yet seems unwilling to seriously address the risks of terrorism linked to uncontrolled borders.
He mentioned the economy and praised Rachel Reeves, saying she is right, but in my opinion she is not qualified for the job. Much of what he says simply does not ring true to me. He also appeared to agree with Reeves on Brexit, which raises concerns about whether Labour would try to take us backwards.
He has made it clear he does not want to leave the ECHR. Again, I find it hard to believe what he says. Smooth talk does not convince me. In my view, we need Labour out.
Even if they don't reach a deal, Donald Trump has stated he will pull out of this war within two weeks. Starmer keeps saying, "This is not our war." I disagree. I believe the threats facing Israel and the West are connected, and we should not be blind to that reality.
He said the UK will take a "leadership role" regarding the Strait of Hormuz. We will see. For me, there was nothing new in this speech. It felt like more delays and uncertainty.
When asked about security in this country, he said that he cares deeply. If that is true, then stopping the boats should be a priority. Instead, the focus seems to be on bills and the economic crisis, while, in my view, not addressing illegal immigration and security concerns strongly enough.
Investing in our national defence should be a top priority. Right now, it feels like total hypocrisy.
