A Sermon on the Healing Power of God

Healing Money Can’t Buy
Text: Acts 3:1–10; Acts 4:1–22
I love the miracle of Peter and John healing the lame man at the Beautiful Gate. Though they had no money to give him, they gave him something far greater — a healing that money could never buy. The man had been begging for alms but received strength in his legs and a new life he could not have imagined.
Many people today put their hope in money. Money can buy medicine, but not healing. It can buy comfort but not peace. It can buy friends, but not true love. Peter and John had no silver or gold to give, but they had Jesus — and that was more than enough.
Introduction
Today, I want to speak to you about a miracle that reminds us of a profound truth: there are things in life that no amount of money can buy — and chief among these is the healing, salvation, and deliverance that comes only from Jesus Christ.
In Acts 3, Peter and John were on their way to pray at the temple when they encountered a man who had been lame from birth. Every day, he was carried to the temple gate called Beautiful to beg for coins. He asked Peter and John for money — but they had something much better to give him.
1. The Beggar’s Expectation vs. God’s Provision
When the lame man saw Peter and John, he asked for alms. He expected a few coins. But Peter said,
Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. (Acts 3:6)
That man got up leaping, walking, and praising God! What he received was far greater than what he thought to ask for. Isn’t that just like God?
As Paul writes in Ephesians 3:20:
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…
The lame man asked for coins — God gave him legs!
2. Money Has Limits, But God’s Power Does Not
There are some things you simply can’t buy:
• Money can’t buy forgiveness of sin.
• Money can’t buy peace with God.
• Money can’t buy healing for a broken heart.
But Jesus paid the price for these with His own blood on the cross. He purchased our healing, our salvation, and our peace.
Peter and John were not wealthy men, but they carried the riches of heaven within them. The world says money can buy anything — but money cannot buy healing, peace of mind, true joy, or eternal life.
Many people today think that if they had more money, all their problems would go away. But there are problems money cannot fix — sickness doctors can’t cure, relationships wealth can’t mend, and an emptiness in the heart that no spending can fill.
Peter and John didn’t just offer a miracle — they offered the gospel. After the healing, they boldly preached Jesus, and thousands more were saved. Healing opens the door for salvation.
3. They Gave What They Had — And It Was Enough
Peter said, “What I do have I give you.”
He knew he had something more valuable than silver and gold: he had the name of Jesus and the authority to use it.
This is good news for us. You may feel you don’t have much to offer people. Maybe you can’t solve every financial need, but you carry something eternal: the gospel, the power of prayer, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the authority to pray for healing and breakthrough.
When we give Jesus to people, we give them something this world cannot give and death cannot take away.
4. A Life Transformed
Acts 3:7–8 says,
And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them — walking, leaping, and praising God.
The man received more than he asked for. He wanted coins — but he received strength in his legs, dignity restored, and a reason to praise God.
This is what Jesus does: He goes beyond our requests. He restores broken lives, heals wounded hearts, and makes the impossible possible.
5. Opposition Could Not Stop the Miracle
In Acts 4, Peter and John were arrested and threatened for preaching Jesus and for the miracle that took place. But the healed man was living proof that God’s power was real. Even the religious leaders could not deny it.
When God does something in your life that money can’t buy, no one can take it from you. They may threaten you, ridicule you, or try to silence you — but they can’t erase your testimony.
6. What Does This Mean for Us Today?
Maybe you feel like the lame man: stuck in a condition that no money can fix. Maybe you feel spiritually crippled, emotionally drained, or in need of a breakthrough.
Or maybe you are like Peter and John: you feel you have nothing to offer because you don’t have wealth or status. But you have the Holy Spirit, and that is more than enough.
You can lay hands on the sick. You can pray in Jesus’ name. You can share your testimony and change a life forever.
God Wants to Do More for You
Maybe today you feel like the beggar — just asking God for enough to get by. Maybe you feel stuck at the “gate” but never entering in.
Let me remind you: “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”
Don’t limit God to your small requests. Believe Him for greater things! Healing for your body. Restoration for your family. Peace for your mind. Joy for your heart. Salvation for your soul.
Conclusion: Give What You Have
There is a healing that money can’t buy — but Jesus freely gives it. It cost Him everything on the cross, but it costs you nothing except to believe.
Peter said, “What I do have I give you.”
You may not have a lot of money — but you have Jesus. Share Him freely. Pray for the sick. Offer hope to the broken. Speak life to the hopeless.
Jesus still heals. Jesus still saves. Jesus still does more than we can ask or imagine.
Let’s Pray
Lord Jesus, we thank You that You are still the same today. Where money fails, Your power succeeds. Where human help ends, Your help begins. I pray today for every person needing a healing money can’t buy — physical healing, emotional healing, and spiritual salvation. We receive it by faith in Your mighty name. Amen.
Call to Action
If you need this healing, call on Jesus today. If you have received this healing, go out like Peter and John — and give what you have to a world begging for hope.
Amen.
